I do own the game, but I don’t think I’ve started it up once. My poor Zelda games never get the love they demand. But do they get the love they deserve?
Monday Gaming Diary: Ever heard of Gaems?
I hadn’t heard of Gaems until I started writing for The Daily Crate. When I got my first LootCrate package, a coupon for a Gaems Personal Gaming Environment was inside. Being the primo investigator I am (go on ahead and LOL), I looked up what a friggin’ Gaems was.
OH. MY. GOD.
I need one of these. I need one yesterday.
I’d love to take my PlayStation 3 with me on my beach trip with the whole family. And for the Extra Life marathon…since I’m going to go to Iowa for the event, I’d love to take my own PS3 with me so I don’t have to use one of their machines. Oh my God, when I have to travel for Thanksgiving or Christmas, I am set. I won’t have to mess with anyone’s TV. I won’t have to disturb anyone’s TV-viewing. I can go off with my brother-in-law (on either side) and any kids and play games. Holy crap I must save up my money and buy one.
Before I can get too excited, however, I see a problem. A rather severe problem.
I have the original PlayStation 3, the “phat”one, if you will. A Gaems only covers the Slim version, because the phat one will crack the screen when you close the case.
WAAAAAAH!
I have some Xbox 360 games in my backlog, but not like my PS3, which still has games releasing for it. I don’t have many PS4 games, of course, and I think my Xbox One is currently just my TV viewing machine that I occasionally play Peggle 2 on.
I’ve searched for something similar for my PS3, but I’ve found nothing. I’ve found carrying cases, but I like the idea of using this whole system to play games on.
I tweeted my laments, and Gaems reached out, 1) explaining why their current cases won’t work for the PS3 and 2) teasing that maybe something is in the works for my poor fat system. I’m not holding my breath, but it would be cool if they thought of the older systems. Think of the fat kids, please! They need love too!
The day one gets announced, and I mean the nanosecond, I’m all over a preorder.
So naturally, that will happen after I finish all of my PS3 games.
One A Wednesday – Twilight Princess Strategy Guides
Yep, that is plural, I have two strategy guides for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, one for the GameCube and one for the Wii. I sold my Wii a couple of years ago, but I always wanted to finish that game. My solution? Find the GameCube version online. And since I know there’s a separate guide out there…well, you get the idea.
Strategy Guides I Wish for May/June 2014
The early spring insanity of 2014 has passed, but the summer gaming lull isn’t upon us just yet. In fact, May and June has me very busy in terms of game reviews. Sadly, it doesn’t have me very busy for strategy guide reviews.
According to GameStop, only two upcoming strategy guides have been announced, and both are by Prima Games: Watch_Dogs strategy guide and Mario Kart 8 strategy guide. BradyGames lists nothing new coming in either GameStop, Amazon, or on their Facebook page. I’m honestly surprised by this.
I’m going to be playing these games regardless, but I’d love it if I had some strategy guides to go along with the experience, partly for this site and partly because I just like having strategy guides. I’m always looking for reasons to buy new bookshelves.
- Bound by Flame – Bound by Flame is an action-RPG that features a fire-demon possessed protagonist. Players can control how much of the demon they will let control their character, which in turn alters the powers and the appearance of the hero. I want a strategy guide for this because I just like having strategy guides for RPGs. I have a tendency to get stuck and I obsess over whether I’m missing out on side quests.
- Wolfenstein: The New Order – Okay okay, I probably won’t need a strategy guide for a shooter. It’s typically not that hard to figure out where to go in shooters, as they’re often linear and the point is to kill everyone. My reasoning here is two-fold: 1) nostalgia purposes and 2) you play the game using stealth or mayhem. What if I want to play all stealthy and I need help (as I most likely will since I suck at stealth)?
- Murdered: Soul Suspect – It’s a murder mystery. We all know I’m going to get stuck at least once, and I know I won’t be alone.
- Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark – I have both of the other Cybertron strategy guides, so yes, I want a guide for this one so my shelf can be complete.
Since most of these games will be available on last generation as well as new generation, the question of install base size is not relevant here.
Of all of these games, I really thought at least one of them would have an announcement for a strategy guide. While I have seen sneak announcements for guides in the past, I’m not counting on that this time around.
Well, I suppose I can do many backlog strategy guide reviews this summer instead. I know everyone is dying to finally hear what I think of the Dragon Age: Origins strategy guide, right?
Monday Gaming Diary: I have a literal paper trail from the Paper Trail DLC
Paper Trail is the free DLC for inFAMOUS Second Son, and it was released in episodic format over 6 weeks. Each episode was a collection of about four missions for Delsin to complete to help solve a murder mystery involving the DUP. What started off as what seemed to be a somewhat simple murder mystery spiraled into a crazy backstory behind Augustine, the DUP, and well, the future for the inFAMOUS series.
Holy crap it was amazing.
What was more amazing than the story was the gameplay. The DLC required you to use either a computer or a tablet to log all of your evidence and for your sleuthing. You had to hack the DUP intranet, a forum for the Lifeline protesters, watch videos, and unfold and decipher many, many messages in origami doves.
But some of the sleuthing required paper puzzles with numbers, symbols, mazes, you name it. For most of the puzzles, I had to print off some of the photos to fold up, connect the dots, or use as a grille cipher. When I was done with the printouts, I used them to jot down copious notes I needed to solve other puzzles and ciphers. I have a nice stack of paper on my desk full of drawings and seemingly random numbers. I don’t think I’ve ever used so much paper to help solve puzzles in a Professor Layton game.
Using so much paper also makes me giggle at a bit of the double meaning behind Paper Trail.
And I really want to fold a bunch of origami doves to dangle around my office. Because I don’t have enough random crap flitting around here.
That reminds me…where IS my origami swan from Heavy Rain? Just realized I haven’t seen that since the move…
