I meant to blog last night after playing inFamous, but I ended up playing a few hours after I meant to stop because I kept saying, “One more mission. Oh wait, there’s another mission. Well, since I’m already here, I might as well do this mission.”
To help me further lose sleep, I’ve decided to pick up Final Fantasy X. I first played this game many years ago when a friend–who got me into gaming–insisted that I play the best damn game ever. She loaned it to me and I couldn’t stand it. The story was interesting, but I hated the gameplay. I gave it back to her after only logging a few hours.
However, I always kept my game saves on my memory card. When the game became a Greatest Hit and therefore dropped in price, I purchased it, thinking maybe I would play it again. (The real reason was because I had save points right before some gorgeous cut-scenes and I liked watching them.) Since I’ve now seen the light and enjoy turn-based games, I knew it was time to give it another chance.
And yep, it’s definitely the right time. I don’t know how I found it so annoying back then; I’ve played far slower turn-based games and loved them. It’s funny to see how your gaming tastes evolve.
So as for Final Fantasy VII, I’m not going to give it up. It’s just going to be a travel game. I don’t have as much motivation to finish it because I already know the story thanks to Crisis Core. I should have played the games in proper release order, but when I was playing CC, I was still in my anti-turn-based game phase. Oh well. No use regretting what you can’t change!
